Teresa sent me another great link to Trade as One's website (more specifically their blog) so check it out and see what you think:

Human Trafficking Documentary
So many good things to post these days, it's been hard to keep up with all of it. My friend Teresa forwarded me an article link which included this 10-minute Human Trafficking documentary.

CTV Community Connection
I had a few days off between finishing my computer term and starting the second semester math term, so I decided to head into Winnipeg to do some shopping. One of my favorite shops is the Ten Thousand Villages store at the south end of the city where everything from the jewelry to the furniture is fair trade, made by artisans around the world. I just happened to stop by the store when CTV was there, filming for their Community Connection feature. I was trying my best to stay out of the camera's eye, but he got me! Watch carefully. . .I'm the customer at the check out.

A Recipe for Ending Global Hunger
Ash Wednesday is this week and this year I have decided to be very intentional about this season of Lent, leading up to Easter. I will be visiting the Canadian Foodgrains Bank website, since they have many great ideas. I just received their winter newsletter, which includes a postcard to be sent to Prime Minister Stephen Harper regarding global hunger. Check out their video, visit their website, and decide how you can get involved:

Won't Back Down
I only stumbled over this information yesterday so even though today is officially the end of International Development Week (February 3-9, 2013), I want to highlight their campaign. The theme for this year is I Am Making A Difference and Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC) decided to focus on the Millennium Development Goals. I will post the various profiles that feature the 8 goals in the coming days, but I want to start with the music video “Won’t Back Down”, a song about the importance of the empowerment of women and girls, written, composed and recorded by seven high school students from around Manitoba. When you view any of these videos (off the MCIC site, not off YouTube), you can enter a contest to win Fair Trade chocolate for a year (a value of $260).

Christian Man & Woman
It's been a long while (since the end of summer) since Rob and I were able to start reading Mere Christianity (C. S. Lewis) again. We finished the first 3 parts in the summer and were only able to read part 4 now in the new year. It was a tremendous read for both of us, even though we were at very different ends of the spectrum. I have always had God, the Bible and church as a part of my life. Rob on the other hand has been searching (more so in the last year and a bit). We finished the book last night, which was another good read, and now we can start another book study. But far more important than that was the fact that Rob became a Christian! It has been a long journey and I feel so privileged to have been able to be a witness to it and see how God transformed his heart.
"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

It's a Girl!
I walked into a Winnipeg shopping mall this past week and this large ad caught my eye. So much so, that I stopped, did a double take and decided to take a picture of it and share it with you.
